VM-Ware
Fedora 11 and VM-Ware Server 2 0.1 Build: 156745I just made VM-Ware Server 2.0.1 Build: 156745 work with Fedora 11 on my old IBM ThinkCenter Workstation, but what a complicated way to success. First I have to say, that I think it is crap from VM-Ware that they don't deliver a fully working version of there VM-Ware server for Fedora 11, after all Fedora Linux is the the worlds next biggest distribution, in desktop Linux, I'm not even going to say the name for the number one, because I hate it so much, but the only documented working setup between Fedora and VM-Ware goes back to the End Of Life Fedora 8 version, and even there you have to make some hacking around to make it work. To make VM-Ware Server 2.0.1 work with the latest Fedora 11 Linux, running kernel-2.6.29.6-217.2.16.fc11.i586, you have to replace some source in the VM-Ware server source folder under /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/ where there exist 4 tar files called vmci.tar, vmmon.tar, vmnet.tar and vsock.tar with some modified archives I found from this link vmware-server-modules-2629. I have also made them available from my own site by this link and then run the vmware-config-tools.pl again to finish the installation. So the steps to a working VMWare-Server installation is. Download the RPM from VM-Ware homepage" and then install it. next download the patched kernel modules extract them in to /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/ and replace the existing ones, and next run the vmware-config-tools.pl |
